CBCGDF One Health Working Committee is Concerned about the Death of 43 Wild Birds Due to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Xiangshan County, Ningbo City

Recently, the One Health Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) learned from the official website of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs received a report from the China Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center. The National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory confirmed that an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5 subtype of wild birds occurred in Xiangshan County, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, with 43 wild birds dead. After the outbreak, the local authorities immediately carried out standardized disposal in accordance with the requirements of the relevant emergency plan, and carried out monitoring and investigation of surrounding poultry. No abnormalities in poultry have been found so far.

The H5 subtype is a subtype of avian influenza virus that mainly infects birds and is considered to be highly pathogenic and may also be fatal. This virus has been found in birds around the world, such as Mexico, Japan, South Korea, etc., and its potential threat of co-infection between humans and animals poses a threat to humans.

The CBCGDF One Health Working Committee believes that in the face of the spread and spillover of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5 subtype virus, we should uphold the One Health concept, adopt the strategy of "preventing human diseases from animals and controlling them from the source", and comprehensively consider and balance the health of animals, humans and the environment in the prevention and control process.
