Central Inspection of Ecological and Environmental Protection Report: Land Pollution in Many Provinces

June 25, the 34th National Land Day, with the theme "Saving and intensively using land and strictly abiding by the red line of arable land". National Land Day began in 1991 to commemorate the promulgation of the Land Management Law of the People's Republic of China, marking China as the first country in the world to set up a commemorative day for land protection.

For five consecutive years, the theme of National Land Day has emphasised the importance of arable land protection. In the process of land protection, preventing soil from being polluted is key.

The third and second rounds of the Central Inspection of Ecological and Environmental Protection show that seven provinces have problems with inadequate control of construction waste, leading to land pollution and ecological damage. The Legal Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has received several reports of land being filled with solid waste and hazardous waste.

Once land is polluted or damaged, it takes years or even decades to repair, and in severe cases, the soil function is permanently lost. Environmental risks such as land degradation, sanding, and destruction of vegetation also increase.

Land protection is the basic guarantee for sustainable socio-economic development. The CBCGDF Legal Committee calls on the public to report land violations and actively participate in land protection.
