CBCGDF and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Jointly Deepen Scientific and Technological Cooperation on Climate Change and Explore Global Pest and Disease Monitoring
On June 17, 2024, Prof. Isa Habibbayli, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences(ANAS), and his delegation visited the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) for in-depth discussions on addressing climate change, scientific and technological exchanges and green development cooperation. Both sides have signed a strategic cooperation agreement on actively participating in global climate governance and other issues.
This
visit is to welcome the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP29)
to be held in Baku in November 2024, and aims to deepen cooperation between
China and Azerbaijan in addressing climate change, scientific and technology
exchange, and green development.
Prof.
HUANG Wenjiang from the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese
Academy of Sciences (CAS) delivered a keynote speech on the research conducted
in cooperation with CBCGDF on global food security monitoring and disaster risk
prediction such as pests and diseases. Prof. HUANG introduced that his team's
research mainly uses scientific technologies such as remote sensing to monitor
environmental biodiversity, major disaster monitoring and early warning, and
carbon emission monitoring and evaluation. Through cooperation with
international organizations and relevant departments such as the Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Group on Earth
Observations (GEO), the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), and
CABI, global monitoring of biodiversity and major disasters is carried out, and
research results and scientific data are shared and promoted globally.
At
the end of the discussion, Prof. HUANG Wenjiang expressed the hope of further
deepening cooperation with the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in the
future, and through the joint efforts of both sides, scientific and
technological exchanges and cooperation will be carried out in addressing
climate change with technology projects and personnel exchanges.
