On June 6, 2024, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) released the latest IP Theme Image for the World Ocean Day - the Harbor Seal "Haibanban" by live broadcast.

Combing the theme of the World Ocean Day 2024"Awaken New Depths”, CBCGDF invited IP planner Ms. Cheche, Ms. XIONG Yutong, deputy secretary-general of CBCGDF, and Sara, the representative of the Ocean and Wetland Working Group of CBCGDF, to share with everyone the inspiration of creating the cute "Haibanban", the plastic pollution and climate change problems faced by marine environmental protection, as well as the positive actions and measures CBCGDF has taken.

At the meeting, representative of the CBCGDF Ocean and Wetlands Working Group shared the innovative actions and positive measures taken by the Ocean and Wetlands Working Group in recent years to protect marine biodiversity, calling on and encouraging more and more people to gain a deeper understanding of marine protection knowledge, join the protection action, and work together to build a community with a shared future for the ocean.

Regarding the work of the CBCGDF’s Community Conservation Areas system in the protection of marine biodiversity, as an important part of the CBCGDF’s work, CBCGDF’s Community Conservation Areas system has been advancing rapidly and steadily. At present, 219 conservation areas have been established in more than 30 provinces and cities across China, including various types such as natural ecosystems, biodiversity, ecological landscapes, cultural landscapes and other types. Among them, several conservation areas for marine life include Conservation Areas for corals, the Sousa chinensis, the Pseudorca crassidens and the Phoca largha, etc are making great contribution to the protection of marine biodiversity.

Regarding the "Peoples vs. Plastics" project Project, which is an environmental protection project initiated by the "Reduce & Pick-up Plastics" working group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), responding to the theme of "Planet vs. Plastics" on World Earth Day in 2024, calling for public participation and social co-governance, and hoping to rely on the power of the entire society to resist plastic pollution.

This project has received positive responses from volunteers from all over the country.

So far, a total of over 60 activities have been held with more than 2000 participants and a total of 3842kg of garbage picked up and dealt with.

CBCGDF Ocean and Wetlands Working Group also actively put forward suggestions for scientific decision-making and actively promote the protection of ocean connectivity. In terms of the Ocean and Wetlands Working Group has participated in many global conferences related to marine governance to promote global marine environmental governance and marine biodiversity conservation, such as UN Ocean Conference, 2024 Ocean Decade Conference, the Intergovernmental Conference on an international legally binding instrument under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction, and the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), meanwhile holding a series of side events.

In addition, the "OceanWetlands" WeChat official account, operated by Ocean and Wetlands Working Group of CBCGDF, is one of the public welfare and science popularization platforms of CBCGDF Media , dedicating to reporting cutting-edge, innovative and high-quality Marine and wetland frontier trends, serving global marine and wetland scientists, environmentalists, as well as readers, researchers, policy makers, and the public in the fields of global science and technology governance, global environmental governance, and providing public welfare support for academic research activities.

In terms of content, the platform consistently tracks the latest updates from major environmental conventions, intergovernmental organizations, and international bodies. This includes, but is not limited to, CBD, RAMSAR, CMS, CITES, UNFCCC, UNCLOS, BBNJ, ITPGRFA, UNCCD, ISA, IMO, BRS, UNEP/UNEA, IPCC, IPBES, IOC-UNESCO, GBIF, GGBN, IUCN, ISO, EBP, as well as the ongoing developments in negotiations for end plastic pollution treaty, DSI governance, and scientific ethics governance, etc.
