CBCGDF Establishes the Another Conservation Area for Black Bears in an Important Habitat of Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province | (CCAfa221)
Recently, the Project Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received an application from volunteers in Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province to establish a black bear conservation area, with the aim of effectively protecting the black bear and reducing conflicts between people and bears.
According
to survey data, Heilongjiang Province is one of the important habitats of
Chinese black bears. However, the number of black bears has dropped sharply
from 2,559 in 1992 to about 1,110 at present. This trend has aroused urgent
attention from the international and domestic communities to the protection of
the living environment of black bears.
The
establishment of the black bear conservation area not only protect the survival
of them, but also to reduce the potential risk of human-bear conflict. The
volunteer team includes members with animal rescue experience and local
villagers, who have in-depth understanding and research on the local ecological
environment and the complexity of human-bear interaction.
