Recently, Mr. TIAN Wenjie, a volunteer from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) noticed that according to the "Official Release of Shunyi Houshayu Town" on June 29, 2024, the world's critically endangered species, Libellula angelina , was found in the East   Roma  Lake area of Houshayu. However, Tian has some doubts about this report. He went to the place not long ago, but did not observe any traces of the  dragonfly     Libellula angelina . Although the existence of the dragonfly was indeed observed in previous years, his long-term observation showed that due to the loss  of habitats such as reeds in the construction projects of Shunyi Houshayu Town, their habitats were destroyed, making it difficult for the low-spotted dragonfly in that wetland to continue to survive. In order to  strengthen the prevention and control of soil pollution sources, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment drafted the "Action Plan for Soil Pollution Source Prevention and Control (Draft for  Comments)", which was publicly released and solicited opinions from the society. In April 2024, the Legal Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) intervened in the investigation of the death of Siberian tigers in Fuyang Wildlife Park in Anhui Province. After investigation, it was found that Fuyang Wildlife Park did not obtain the qualification for artificial breeding of wild Siberian tigers, and the living environment of Siberian tigers in the park was extremely poor. In addition, the venues and equipment facilities for artificial breeding of Siberian tigers in the park were non-compliant and non-standard, which has caused more than a dozen wild Siberian tigers to die of abnormal reasons. The 9th Meeting of the Signatory States to the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Management of Marine Turtles and their Habitats of the Indian Ocean and South-East Asia (IOSEA Marine Turtles MOU)  was held from 24-27 June 2024 in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania. The meeting agreed on a number of conservation actions , which  include the adoption of a Single Species Action Plan for the critically endangered hawksbill turtle, recommendations on beach management and hatchery practices, as well as the endorsement of guidance on identifying critical habitats for turtles. There is a misunderstanding in current discussions about the sustainable development and ESG (environmental, social and governance) reports. Credit to CBCGDF These reports are neither financial reports, audits, nor advocacy reports, but rather technical reports, similar to post-environmental impact assessments (post-EIAs). The ESG report is a scientific assessment of corporate behaviour, particularly its impact on the environment, biodiversity and climate.   The "E" in ESG stands for Environmental Assessment, which covers biodiversity and climate change issues. Effective sustainable and ESG (environmental, social and governance) reporting should be guided by the following principles: assessment by a third party; conducted by a technical body or expert with relevant expertise, especially in the fields of biodiversity and climate science; and based on scientific research and data analysis to ensure its accuracy and reliability. In the context of biodiversity conservation in China, a crucial concept is the "Three Haves", or Sanyou (三有）in Chinese. "Three Haves" animals refer to those listed in the National Forestry and Grassland Administration's Directory of Terrestrial Wild Animals with Important Ecological, Scientific, and Social Value. The latest version of this directory was released on June 26, 2023. The newly adjusted "Three Haves" list includes a total of 1924 species of terrestrial wild animals. This includes 91 species of mammals, 1028 species of birds, 450 species of reptiles, 253 species of amphibians, 96 species of insects, 2 species of arachnids, and 4 species of oligochaetes. Compared to the original directory published in 2000, the new list has substantially expanded the scope of wildlife protection by adding more than 700 new species while retaining most of the original species.   On 13 June 2024, a 17-year-old teenager from Shandong Province drowned near Dragon Lake Wetland Park in Magpie Mountain, Jinan. Rescuers surmised that the teenager accidentally fell into the water while playing with a paddle board in the lake and became entangled in an underwater fishing net, which ultimately led to the tragedy. The accident is not only heartbreaking, but also raises serious concerns about the potential threat of "ghost fishing gear".
