Concerned About the Impact of Climate Change on Children, CBCGDF International Department Submitted a Case Study to the UNFCCC SB60

In June 2024, the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will held an expert dialogue on children and climate change at its 60th session (SB60) in Bonn. This was the first time in the history of UNFCCC to hold such a dialogue, which is of great historical significance.

Climate change has had a disproportionate impact on children. This is mainly because children's physiological and psychological characteristics make them more fragile and vulnerable. Children's physiological structure and immune system are not fully developed, making them more sensitive to health problems caused by climate change, such as respiratory diseases, skin diseases, etc. In addition, many children in today's world are living in relatively fragile environments and are often more susceptible to the impacts of climate change, such as frequent natural disasters, inadequate drinking water and food. In addition, children are more susceptible to the impact of climate change psychologically, and their awareness and adaptability to environmental changes and risks are often weak, making them prone to negative emotions such as anxiety and fear. Therefore, it is necessary to pay special attention to and protect children, take effective measures to mitigate the disproportionate impact of climate change on them, and ensure their health and safety.

As an observer organization of UNFCCC, the International Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) actively responded to the call and submitted relevant cases. The CBCGDF International Department urges the SBI President to focus on the link between climate change, environmental pollution, and the health risks faced by children at the upcoming dialogue.
