CBCGDF Volunteers in Fujin County, Heilongjiang Province in Action to Protect the Local Ecology
In Fujin County, Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, there is a group of volunteers from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) who care about the ecological environment and protect the harmony of nature with their actions.
Recently, they came to the Qixing Farm Conservation Area of the Jiansanjiang Farm Management Bureau and launched a meaningful ecological protection action.
On November 4, 2024, CBCGDF volunteers carefully patrolled along the river and cleared a total of 9 illegal fishing tools and ground cages at three different points. After further patrols, 12 net fish and lobster cages were seized within a range of about 86 kilometers. Fortunately, since the fishermen had just lifted the ground cages, there were not many fish, shrimps and frogs in the cages. The volunteers acted decisively and released all the fish and shrimps, allowing them to return to the embrace of nature.
First of all, the actions of volunteers help maintain ecological balance. The use of illegal fishing tools will seriously damage the living environment of aquatic organisms, affecting the reproduction of species and the stability of the ecosystem. The actions of volunteers can reduce this damage and provide a more suitable living space for aquatic organisms.
Secondly, protecting the ecological environment can leave valuable natural resources for our future generations. A healthy ecological environment is the foundation of sustainable development of mankind. The efforts of volunteers are precisely to allow future generations to appreciate the beautiful natural scenery and enjoy rich ecological resources.
Finally, the actions of volunteers can also play a demonstrative role, inspire more people to participate in ecological protection, and form a good atmosphere for the whole society to jointly protect the ecological environment.
This action not only demonstrates the selfless dedication of the volunteers in Fujin, but also makes positive contributions to protecting the ecological environment. Let us give a thumbs up to these volunteers and work together to protect the ecological environment.
The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has long been dedicated to the conservation of migratory birds. Their efforts encompass widespread public engagement through initiatives like Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON). For years, the Foundation has advocated at the platforms of China's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, urging the government to ratify the United Nations Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) to promote protection measures for migratory wildlife, including the feathered friends.
Additionally, CBCGDF has established Community Conservation Areas (CCAfa) to protect birds and combat poaching at the community level. CCAfas around the country have also exposed illegal wildlife trade, including the trade of wild birds on e-commerce platforms. The Beijing-based group promotes birdwatching ethics and has published guidelines on Nature Photography Ethics to foster respect for wildlife and nature.
As an active participant in international environmental protection, CBCGDF serves as an observer to international agreements such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. It is also a member organization of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), contributing significantly to global biodiversity conservation efforts.
