The Fairy Pitta (Pitta nympha) Discovered Again in CBCGDF Insect Conservation Area in Lianyungang City

Recently, volunteers from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) Insect Conservation Area in Lianyungang city, Jiangsu province discovered the Fairy Pitta(Pitta nympha) again while patrolling in Yuntaishan Mountain. In September 2021, volunteers had accidentally encountered the Fairy Pitta in this area.

The Fairy Pitta is a medium-sized forest bird. Because of its bright feathers, it is a national second-class protected animal.

According to the volunteer report, this Fairy Pitta appeared on a fallen tree trunk. Against the dense green background of the summer forest, its bright fur and expression made it impossible to look away: it seemed that it had just finished eating, and there were still mud debris on its mouth after digging in the nearby mud. In the bright light and shadow, this Fairy Pitta stood on tiptoe from time to time, stretched its neck, and looked into the distant woods.
