Reduce Birds and Power Lines Conflicts and Build a Wildlife Rescue System in Three Dimensions | ZHOU Talks about the Fourth Civilization (Lecture 298)

Recently, Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng, the Vice Chairman and Secretary General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), proposed suggestions on the rescue of wild birds in the "Migratory Bird Lifeline" project and believes that the rescue system should be strengthened from three aspects.

Dr. ZHOU believes that in a comprehensive rescue system, the most basic is to have the ability to patrol, observe and scientifically record. At this level, the patrol personnel are required to pay attention to the habitat, observe birds on land and in the air, and pay special attention to whether there are casualties, the status, number and causes of casualties of birds around power transmission lines and towers, and to conduct scientific records and basic operations.

The second level of wildlife rescue is the ability to independently carry out rescue activities. At this stage, it requires a professional rescue team, professional training for rescue personnel, and the ability to independently handle and respond to basic wildlife injuries and diseases.

The third level is to establish rescue stations or higher-level regional wildlife rescue centers. Rescue stations can be divided into three levels according to their rescue capabilities, and be incorporated into the local unified and compliant rescue system as an organic part of it.

Regional wildlife rescue centers at a higher level can rely on relatively mature rescue stations established in the past as a base point to provide timely and efficient rescue for injuries or casualties of wildlife in a larger range and wider area. In addition, more species can be rescued, the success rate of rescue treatment has been significantly improved, and the status of wildlife in a wider range can be monitored.
