A lot achieved, but much remains to be done | A Summing-up Meeting by CBCGDF on the 63rd meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention on Wetlands (SC63)

On 28 June 2024, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) held a Summing-up Meeting for the delegation who have been attended the 63rd meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention on Wetlands (SC63) , which was held in Gland, Switzerland, at the beginning of June 2024.

The 63rd meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention on Wetlands (SC63) was held from Monday 3 to Friday 7 June 2024 at the Secretariat Headquarters in Gland, Switzerland. As an observer to the Convention on Wetlands, CBCGDF sent a delegation attending the meeting on site, and an backup team was formed to fully support the on-site representatives.

For a long time, CBCGDF has been actively committed to actively and deeply participating in global environmental governance, telling the story of China's wetland protection, and proactively spreading China's voice. Previously, from 4 to 8 September 2023, CBCGDF delegation attended the 62nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention on Wetlands (SC62) in Gland, Switzerland.

In themeeting, CBCGDF representatives shared their insights & experiences in detail, analysing & summarising what they did well and what remains to be done, covering all aspects of preparation (such as understanding the Rules of Procedure and familiarising themselves with the agenda documents in advance), familiarisation with the relevant fields, the process of participation and liaison after the meeting. "Full Pre-meeting preparations are very important and should be given sufficient attention in order to ensure efficiency & fruitfulness during the participation." All  members of CBCGDF delegation agreed. The CBCGDF delegates found it a very rewarding and fruitful experience. Through the experience & lessons learnt from each meeting, CBCGDF has been able to play a better role, and is showing the world the new achievements of China's wetland conservation in a more positive manner.

The head of CBCGDF delegation also introduced the observations, achievements and shortcomings of the participation, and put forward suggestions for future improvement.

During the participation in SC63, CBCGDF representative actively communicated with delegates from all over the world, discussing wetland, water governance and other related issues, seeking possibilities for cooperation.

It is particularly worth mentioning that the CBCGDF delegation had the great honour of exchanging views with Dr. Musonda Xoliswa Mumba, Secretary-General of the Convention on Wetlands, on a number of occasions during the Conference. At the kind invitation of Dr. Musonda Xoliswa Mumba, CBCGDF representative attended the second Consultation Meeting "Women and Wetlands" Initiative on behalf of Linda WONG, Deputy Secretary-General of CBDGDF, on 6 June, discussing how to better empower women to drive change for sustainable & wise use and conservation of wetlands. The CBCGDF representative brought a different perspective and won high praise for his excellent performance.

It is hoped that next time we can be more fully prepared to actively showcase China's achievements in wetland conservation in the international community and share the efforts of Chinese social organisations, communities and volunteers. Meanwhile, we look forward to working with the international community to contribute to the promotion of global wetland conservation.
