Ma Yong: Scientific data is extremely important for tobacco control

The report "2022 China Tobacco Control Observation - Civilian Perspective" was recently released in Beijing, and Ma Yong, Deputy Secretary General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), was invited to attend the meeting.

He said, "I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations and respect for the release of the report "2022 China Tobacco Control Watch - Civilian Perspective". 2023 is the 14th consecutive year that the report has been released, and Think Tank Research Center for Health Development has made it a brand for many years. The Think Tank Research Center for Health Development has made a brand out of it over the years, and the report is very comprehensive, which is very valuable.

The theme of “World No Tobacco Day” for 2022 and 2023 has changed significantly, from "big health" to "big environment," in line with current global climate change trends, especially the biodiversity crisis and environmental concerns. This change is in line with the current trend of global climate change, especially the biodiversity crisis and environmental issues.

CBCGDF is a newcomer to tobacco control work, and currently faces many challenges, but challenges and opportunities coexist, so we must work together to promote tobacco control work. Vigorously carry out the construction of ecological civilization and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 is an important support for the current tobacco control work, and advocating the "double carbon" goal is our solemn commitment to the international community. In the context of the World Health Organization's shift in the theme of tobacco control to the environmental field, we are also more motivated to promote tobacco control.

Tobacco control, in fact, has a lot of similarities with the historical development of environmental protection, and some accurate data to support the advocacy of tobacco control will be more powerful. From last year to today, we have been promoting the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to join the inter-ministerial coordination leading group for FCTC compliance. Having the Ministry of Ecology and Environment join it will strengthen interdepartmental coordination and cooperation, which will play an important role in promoting the construction of ecological civilization in China, building a community of human destiny, and achieving the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. “The above are some of my personal observations and thoughts for reference only. Thank you!” he said.
