Any Reassessment or Change for the Status of the Bird Species listed in the IUCN Red List? A Discussion was held by CBCGDF
On the morning of June 13, 2023, the Professional Committee on Bird Diversity Conservation of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), the International Department of CBCGDF, and the IUCN SSC members of CBCGDF held a detailed discussion on the current global assessment of bird species' endangered status and other matters, and issued an announcement on a long-term call for proposals for bird species reassessment, with a view to helping the global extinction risk assessment of bird species through biodiversity data.
BirdLife International, as the IUCN Red List Authority for birds,
continually collates up-to-date information on Globally Threatened Birds from
the published literature and from a worldwide network of experts. This
information is used to evaluate the status of each species for the IUCN Red
List of Threatened Species.
The purpose of the Forums is to provide an opportunity for both
professionals and amateurs, for birdwatchers, researchers and conservationists,
to contribute information on globally threatened birds relevant to the
assessment of their threat status and their conservation. Contributors can also
suggest new species whose status may need reviewing, share information on
species that are listed as Data Deficient, or propose taxonomic rearrangements.
The new and revised species assessments and updated factsheets will be
published on the BirdLife Data Zone website and incorporated into the 2023 IUCN
Red List update, currently scheduled for release in December.
As members of the expert network of the IUCN Red List of Birds, two CBCGDF
experts have been closely following the latest information on threatened birds
around the world and have been active in offering advice.
