Great to hear the Stink rat snake already back to the Wild, thanks to CBCGDF Volunteers in CCAfa, Lianyungang
On the afternoon of June 12, 2023, Mr. Zhou Chong, a volunteer from a Community Conservation Area in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Prov., one of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF)’s CCAfas, found a nearly three-meter-long Stink rat snake(王锦蛇) while patrolling near a reservoir, Huaguo Mountain.
It had a bulging stomach and was wandering around as if it didn't want to leave for the moment. Fearing that it might scare passersby or meet with an accident, our volunteers used snake trapping tools to "pack" it up and take it into the jungle to be released.
The Stink rat snake(王锦蛇) is a large, non-venomous snake, usually over 2 meters in length as an adult. It has a large, thick body with a yellow abdomen and black abdominal phosphorus edges; the back of the head and body are mixed with black and yellow, and the back of the head has a black pattern that looks like the word "king". It is also called "cauliflower snake" because its pattern looks very similar to that of rape flowers. Although it is a non-venomous snake, it is very famous in the snake world. It is very widely distributed in China and is included in the “List of Terrestrial Wild Animals of Ecological, Scientific and Social Importance”.
Tips
Snakes like to live in the shade of trees, grass, streams and other shady
places, especially before, after and in the evening to watch out for snakes. If
you encounter a snake in the wild, you should just leave it alone, or call for
help in time. Do not catch or chase the snake without permission to avoid
unnecessary injuries.
