Appalling to Find Massive Death of Raptors in Qinghai Jiatang Grassland, Urgent Research Carried out by CBCGDF
More than 50 raptors have been reported dead during the recent
month from May 24 to June 18 in the Jiatang Grassland & Batang Grassland, Sanjiangyuan,
Qinghai Prov., northwest China, according to some volunteers engaged in
environmental protection. And these raptors are all national key protected wild
animals, including White-tailed Sea-eagle, Steppe Eagle, Upland Buzzard, etc. What
a pity! So, what on earth has caused such massive death?? China Biodiversity
Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) Research Office attached
great importance to this, and in response, CBCGDF has launched an investigation
into the mass death of raptors under the deployment of Secretary-General Dr. Zhou
Jinfeng, with a view to finding the real cause of the raptor deaths.
Secretary-General Dr. Zhou Jinfeng also asked all project
sites to take the initiative to strengthen the research on the sudden mass
death of wild birds in their daily patrol, and to conduct relevant studies.
It’s hoped that attention will be paid to such accidental
death of birds around the transmission lines; and photos should be taken timely
about the dead birds on site, notes be taken about the accurate location, time,
bird species and other basic information for further analysis and research.
