Patrol of Phoenix Mountain Black Bear Conservation Area: Tracking Black Bear Footprints and Exploring Ways to Build a Harmonious Coexistence | CBCGDF CCAfa
During the patrol, volunteers from the Phoenix Mountain Black Bear Conservation Area of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) carefully observed and looked for traces of black bear activities, and accumulated experience in the patrols in October last year and from June to August this year. Not long ago, Dr. Sun Quanhui of the World Animal Protection Association came to Harbin to investigate black bear protection. CBCGDF volunteers accompanied him to the source of the Ash River in the Shanhe Forest Farm for an investigation. A large number of black bear scratches were found on the tall oak trees and dead larch trees at the downslope of the mountain forest near the mountain road.
In addition, volunteers use infrared cameras for monitoring, which can capture black bear activities at night or when it is difficult to observe directly, so as to confirm whether there are bears here.Exploring
and studying the traces of black bear activities can not only understand and
master the activity patterns of black bears, but also help scientific research
on the black bear species and build a harmonious coexistence between humans and
bears.
