CBCGDF International Department held the Global Environmental Governance Capacity Building Workshop (No 130) on October 10, 2024
On the morning of October 10, 2024, the International Department of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), the Ocean and Wetlands Working Group, and the CBCGDF Reduce and Pick up Plastics Working Group jointly held the Global Environmental Governance Capacity Building Workshop (130).
In order to further raise public awareness of the value of biodiversity, to promote the mainstreaming of biodiversity in all sectors of society and to encourage more people to get involved in biodiversity conservation, the leaders of the scientific communication platforms discussed how to promote the popularisation of scientific knowledge on biodiversity more effectively and from different perspectives. Participants agreed on the need to develop more efficient and precise communication plans to meet the needs of different specific groups.
The period from October to December, 2024, is an important time for global environmental governance. Four important international conferences will be held one after another. As an observer to several UN conventions, CBCGDF has formed delegations to promote Chinese youth to stand on the international stage, and to actively participate in global environmental governance.
The United Nations Conference on Biodiversity 2024 (CBD COP16) was held in Cali, Colombia, from 21 October to 1 November 2024 for 12 days, where 196 countries discussed how to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity.
From 11-22 November 2024, the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP29) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Conference will bring together global leaders, policy makers, scientists, civil society organisations and private sector representatives to discuss and address the challenges posed by climate change.
The fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-5), is scheduled to take place from 25 November to 1 December 2024 at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center in Busan, Republic of Korea.
The 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16), to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 2 to 13 December 2024, will be an important milestone in advancing the global fight against land degradation, desertification and drought, and in promoting sustainable development. The Conference will bring together 197 Parties (196 countries and the European Union), experts and civil society to promote urgent action.
