2025 Earth Day: Welcome to Share the Good Plastic Reduction Actions and Ideas |Peoples vs. Plastics

The 55th Earth Day will come as scheduled on April 22, 2025. The theme of 2025 is "OUR POWER, OUR PLANET," inviting everyone in the world to unite to support renewable energy and triple global clean electricity production by 2030.

Recently, the Peoples vs. Plastics Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received an official letter from the Earth Day organization, calling on all parties to register their "fighting plastic" actions on Earth Day on the global plastic cleanup map on its official website, share them with the world and inspire more volunteers to join the fight against plastic pollution around the world.

Plastic pollution is a global problem. Every day, the equivalent of 2,000 garbage trucks of plastic is dumped into the world's oceans, rivers and lakes. Every year, 19 million to 23 million tons of plastic waste is leaked into aquatic ecosystems, causing serious pollution to various water bodies. Plastic pollution can change habitats and natural processes, reduce the ability of ecosystems to adapt to climate change, and affect human livelihoods, health, food production capacity and social well-being.

The "Peoples vs. Plastics" campaign initiated by the China Green Development Foundation will, as in previous years, continue to organize volunteers across the country to carry out activities such as beach and river cleaning, campus science popularization, and community publicity. It will also cooperate with local governments, enterprises, and international organizations to promote plastic reduction policies and public welfare practices, advocate the public to reduce the use of disposable plastics through education, promote the green transformation from personal habits to social systems, and provide a Chinese practice example with "people-oriented solutions" as the core for global plastic pollution governance.
