Building a Climate-Resilient Future: CBCGDF Representative Attends Forum at Hong Kong PolyU’s Otto Poon Institute, Discussing Climate Adaptation Solutions
On April 2, 2025, a representative from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited to attend the "Building a Climate-Resilient Future" forum hosted by the Otto Poon Research Institute for Climate-Resilient Infrastructure (RICRI) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The forum brought together leading global scholars, policymakers, and industry experts to explore innovative solutions for infrastructure resilience in the face of climate change.
At the forum, the CBCGDF representative shared the foundation’s achievements in biodiversity conservation and green development, with particular emphasis on the critical value of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in enhancing climate resilience. "The health of ecosystems is inextricably linked to climate resilience," the CBCGDF representative stated. "Our practical experience in wetland restoration, coastal protection, and other areas demonstrates that integrating natural ecosystems into climate adaptation planning not only strengthens disaster resilience but also safeguards biodiversity, delivering multiple benefits." This perspective aligns closely with RICRI’s proposed "Green-Grey-Blue-Governance" integrated framework, which advocates combining natural solutions with engineering measures to provide more sustainable pathways for addressing extreme climate events.
Although this event was solely an academic exchange, CBCGDF expressed strong interest in RICRI’s research in the following areas: co-designing coastal ecosystems with climate-resilient infrastructure, building climate adaptation capacity in rural communities, and cost-benefit analysis of climate resilience policies. "We look forward to potential in-depth collaboration with leading research institutions like RICRI in the future," the CBCGDF representative added. "There is particularly vast potential for cooperation in integrating ecological conservation principles into climate-resilient infrastructure development."
