CPPCC Member XU Jin Proposes Developing the "Measures for Safety Assessment of Indoor Residential Environment" | CBCGDF Climate Change Working Group
The health level of the indoor residential environment is an important indicator for evaluating a “good house.” On average, modern people spend about 90% of their time in indoor environments. The quality of indoor environments in residences, office buildings, and public places directly affects human health. Indoor air pollution has been listed as one of the top ten global health threats.
During this year’s National Two Sessions,
Xu Jin, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political
Consultative Conference (CPPCC), submitted a proposal on formulating the
“Measures for the Safety Assessment of Indoor Residential Environment.” He also
suggested improving the technical specifications applicable to the safety
monitoring of the indoor residential environment to ensure the scientific
nature and operability of the “Measures.”
In the proposal, Xu Jin paid particular
attention to the issue of indoor PM2.5 pollution. To improve indoor air
quality, he suggested combining the environmental characteristics of different
regions in China, the current status of indoor and outdoor air quality,
relevant industry standards, and the latest scientific research results. He
proposed adding a negative oxygen ion index and establishing a health standard
for indoor negative oxygen ion concentration in the “Measures for the Safety
Assessment of Indoor Residential Environment.”
Xu Jin also pointed out that the current
artificial negative oxygen ion generation technology still has issues such as
low efficiency and the production of harmful substances like ozone. He
suggested that the “Measures for the Safety Assessment of Indoor Residential
Environment” should strengthen market access and regulation of artificial
negative oxygen ion generation equipment, clarify the certification authorities
for ozone-free negative oxygen ion generation equipment, and promote harmless
products.
It is reported that this proposal has been
handed over to the relevant departments. The Two Sessions Proposal Working
Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation
(CBCGDF) also looks forward to the proposal receiving attention and support
from the relevant departments.
