"OceanWetlands" Editor-in-Chief Linda WONG is to attend the SSC Webinar about the lUCN Red List Criteria

Ms. Linda WONG, Deputy Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and Editor-in-Chief of "OceanWetlands", received an email recently inviting her to attend the upcoming  IUCN SSC Webinar "The lUCN Red List Criteria: your questions answered", and has confirmed her attendance.

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ is a critical indicator of the health of the world’s biodiversity. It is therefore important that assessments published on the IUCN Red List are transparent, fully documented, data-driven, and that the IUCN Red List Criteria have been applied correctly. In this webinar, the first of a new series, Resit Akçakaya (Chair of the IUCN SSC Standards and Petitions Committee) will discuss some of the common misunderstandings when applying the Red List Criteria, and how to improve the chance of your assessments being published smoothly on the IUCN Red List. In particular, the webinar will cover questions on:

  • Calculating number of locations in more complex situations.
  • The data required to project a population reduction and how to document this.
  • Use of the extinction probability tool.

Participants will have the opportunity to state any specific question they would like to be covered, within these topics.
