CBCGDF Invited by the French Embassy in China to Attend a Special Lecture Themed "The Soils: the Secret to a Fertile World" on 2024 World Soil Day

Recently, the International Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received an invitation letter from the French Embassy in China to attend a special lecture, themed "The soils: the secret to a fertile world", held at the French Cultural Center in Beijing on the evening of December 4, 2024, just before the 2024 World Soil Day.

December 5, 2014 was the first World Soil Day of the United Nations. Soil is the cornerstone of food production. Thanks to the rich biodiversity in the soil, it also plays an effect in regulating climate and reducing environmental pollution. On the occasion of World Soil Day 2024, the French Cultural Center in Beijing will hold a discussion on December 4 on the importance of sustainable management of soil resources to the earth and the role of agriculture in soil protection.

Laurent Oriol, technical cooperation attaché at the French Embassy (cooperation and cultural action service) will host this event.

Shi Yan, a pioneer of associations for the maintenance of peasant agriculture (AMAP) in China and who runs the “Shared Harvest” farm in the Shunyi district of Beijing, will present agricultural practices that respect the soil.

Cédric Prévost, agricultural advisor at the French Embassy (regional economic service), will present the “4 per 1000” initiative, launched at COP21 in 2015, which aims to increase the carbon content of agricultural soils and improve their organic matter content.China Green Development Foundation has been a partner of the "4/1000" initiative since 2022.
